Character Name: Sister Elraine Figarette
Fandom: Double Arts
Age: 16.
Species: Human.
Gender: Female.
Sexual Orientation (if applicable): Most likely heterosexual.
Physical Appearance: Elraine stands about average height for her age, and is probably at average Japanese teenager height and weight. Her skin is light, which might be a function of her lowered general exposure to the sun as well as a natural sort of pigmentation. Her hair is apparently blue. Her eyes, green. She covers most of her body in clothing; long jackets or garments, and gloves over her hands according to necessity and possible accident in relation to her profession and the Troi disease.
Personality and Traits: No gloating, learning to be assertive toward following dreams, supportive, loyal, high sense of responsibility, gloomy, easily flustered via personal life, a teenager in some unexpected ways, finding joy in life again, crushing like a normal girl, feeling warm again:
Elraine doesn't tend to gloat; in fact, for the longest time she didn't feel pride in her work, or feel the thanks of those who she saved or attempted to save. She is later inspired to hear another sister's feelings on the subject. Elraine isn't particularly cheerful - she appreciates the world around her in a distant sense, grateful for being alive at the moment, until Kili changed her life by giving it back to her. Her feelings on existence became much more solid once she allowed herself to feel again, reaching out to those who saw her as a person and not just a representation of an intensely painful part of reality. Kili and his parents helped her understand how to be human again, opening up her sense of empathy beyond the scope it had fallen to out of survival against such pain as she lived around. She is giving, though for a long time out of necessity and a certainty in what she was worth as far as a measure against the inevitable. Her emotions have been able to mature and become expressive - she experiences joy, sadness, and fear in a tangible, immediate way she previously inured herself to. This has allowed her to start expressing characteristics of her age-group - despite the maturity, being able to blush when faced with implications about her supposed relationship with Kili, and loudly proclaiming against them. Her eventual crush, and love, also fallow a pattern of self-discovery; as she learns more about being Elraine and following what her heart tells her, she learns more about how she feels and wants to interact with the world around her.
Elraine is loyal, and timely. She tends to be more gloomy or realistic, though some of Kili's optimism has begun to rub off on her. She is becoming more emotionally sensitive to other people, even if she's not physically able to become close to them without being extremely cautious. She has lost her supreme fatalistic edge, and hopes for the coming future provided by Kili's miraculous talent. She wants to support that future and that goal, and Kili himself.
Canon Background: Elraine, at younger (presumably) than the age of eight, was found alive in the middle of a village entirely wiped out by Troi/Troy, a disease which causes those afflicted to ultimately disappear. Her ability to survive the poison was her ticket into the Sisterhood, a group of women with the ability to handle the "poison" of Troi and survive. She was subsequently raised at the main headquarters, qualifying as a full-fledged Sister by 8. Sisters are the women who travel the world responding to cases of Troi, helping those afflicted survive for far longer. They do not cure their patients, merely take dangerous levels of Troi down to a level managed by people without the extended immunity.
Elraine gained the nick-name of the "White Fairy" due to the sheer numbers of persons she was able to treat since joining the Sister's ranks. She reported to Sister Martha, and made at least one good friend while growing up, though she, as with many of the Sisters, appears to lead a largely solitary life.
While Elraine's resistance to Troi was greater than most others, and the cases she treated likewise far greater in number than most all the other sisters, she wasn't expected to be able to survive past the age of 20. A certain apathy for her own continued existence helped her pursue her drive to keep on treating patients, despite the fact that if she retired, she would life for many more years. Her end came sooner than expected by four years, in a little town a continent removed from the Sister's Headquarters. Seizures caused her to collapse in a side-alley, where she felt herself getting colder and watched herself start to disappear - and then the pain stopped, and she was staring up at Kili and life got a whole lot more plausible.
Kili had a strange ability to depress the effect of Troi as well as do a slew of nifty things like boost immune systems, increase power proportionate to how many people link hands with him, the ability to make those he touch also become lighter and faster -- the list does go on. Elraine brought him to a call center to ask Sister Martha what to do - and ended up with instructions to bring him to central headquarters, and to never let go of his hand on pain of death.
Assassins hired by an organization known as Gazelle began attacking straight-away, but because of who Elle is instead of Kili (as later it is because of Kili). By luck and their innate abilities, the duo manage to live through the first encounter, sending the assassin to jail. That night, Elle met Kili's parents as well, and started dealing with the menial, technical side of their new found connection - bathing and using the restroom with someone attached to your hand.
Elraine had a hard time accepting the kindness from Kili's parents, having been faced with far more prejudice than praise from those who inadequately understood Troi and how it spread. The first step toward learning how to appreciate life came from learning how to appreciate what she's always done, and to learn that she, too, is just human, and deserves to be treated as such. The fear of touching someone accidentally and transmitting the disease becomes one of prudence, and less of a life defining paranoia.
Another attack leads to Elle meeting Sui, a childhood friend (and 3 time girlfriend of Kili and most the town) part of the now more defunct warrior lineage of their world. Elraine comes to appreciate and hold in question Sui's tendency to the extremes, absurdities, and childishness, even as Sui proves invaluable as a companion and fighter.
Waiting for a contigent of martial Sisters to reach Kili's hometown, Elle asks to visit a local, secluded chapel of the Sisters to ask for an interem guardian. There she learns just how far the story of Sister Elraine, and the story of Kili, had spread, and just how important it was spiritually to a community of people pretty much involved with the most tragically fatal disease currently on the planet. When one of the founding members of Gazelle shows up and begins to attack, Elraine is horrified. With the mission of keeping Kili alive to get to the capital in mind, she gets him to run away with her, only to find that she has to throw down a gauntlet in order to keep him from running back to fight. Still, she agrees she can't leave the other sisters to a certain death, and while she first has to be carried back, she asks to be let down to run with Kili.
On arriving, they are separated. Elraine wanted desperately to be able to help, but the seizures start immediately and when she attempts to stand, her foot disappears. Her body starts shutting down and she feels immensely cold, until the other Sisters manage to help get Kili to her side to save her. The attacker recognized Kili's "power," presaging an unresolved storyline in the series, and leaves the company alive for now. Elle watched Kili come to a sort of depression, then firm resolution - and she confers with Sister Martha and announces her wish to leave town to meet the contingent of sisters.
Permission granted, she and Kili leave, after informing his parents and being found out by Sui (who insists in tagging along). They make it to the next town and meet with a friend of Kili's family, who happens to be a fortune teller. With "Rei/Name of the Moment"'s help, they speak with Fallan, a sort of legendary mercenary... who refuses to be their bodyguard for his own reasons.
While in town, they are targeted yet again; though Elle and Kili make the decision to stand firm and fight whatever comes their way. They didn't want people getting hurt, especially Kili after the fight at the chapel. Subsequently, they manage to take on another assassin, who is given a final blow by Sui.
Times are peaceful for a while as they continue to wait, though Farran suggests strongly some measures be taken against them drawing attention to themselves. Elle wears a cloak meant to be nondescript, yet is nevertheless identified by Hine, the local working Sister. The three have lunch, with Farran watching from the background, and Elle takes her first stance against the pessimism of someone in the sisterhood by encouraging Hine to not give up her dreams to be a painter. "Be a little more selfish." She had begun to appreciate what life is, and what sacrifices don't need to be -- even as Hine decides to follow through on her plan to treat patients until she dies.
Elle and Kili learn about the precarious nature of Hine's situation twenty minutes after she has left for her final treatment. They arrive just as Hine begins disappearing, and Kili grabs her hand. The seizures stop, and then Elraine lays her hand on Hine's and begins to treat the other sister. Potentially lethal for Elraine, she decides she needs to try, since it wouldn't be possible for Kili to save everyone like he saved her and continue to move.
Her plan works, and Kili is unimpressed with her being reckless; and he then goes on to ask Farran to teach them how to fight. So began dance class, in order to build on their ability to coordinate and move as one. Elraine actually excels faster than Kili, who promptly turns it into a contest - but either way, the two end up moving along so splendidly that in a matter of days they were able to face another contingent of assassins and come out alive - after defeating various of those fighting against them.
With resolve, and a new outfit designed by Elraine and sewn by Kili, they face the journey they must make... even as Elraine begins to realize the feelings she has for Kili are much deeper than she would have ever expected before. (Or would have expected in her life previously.)
Strengths/Abilities: Elraine is adaptable, and her reflexes even prior to Kili are pretty good. These are strengths, totally. She may or may not have a mild poison tolerance all around; mild irritants might not bother her horribly. She knows basic first aid, possibly more.
Weaknesses/Faults: She cannot cook. She has a tendency to be gloomy, or see only the responsibilities and double-standards around her, and complain of them, even if just to herself. She's a violent sleeper, and also talks in her sleep.
